An independent reading of Calgary's permit file

Source: City of Calgary Open Data — Building Permits (dataset c2es-76ed). CalgaryPermit stores a copy of that feed and calculates the figures on this page from that copy. The City of Calgary is the publisher of the original file.

What the site does

The City publishes one row per building permit, with a status, dates, a class, a work type, an address, a community, and often a cost and a contractor name. This site keeps a copy of that feed, explains the columns in the guides, and builds a page for each community that has enough stored rows to be worth reading. Counts on those pages are queries against the database. They are not typed in by hand.

The public guides, the FAQ, the community pages, and this page do not require an account. While free access is turned on, the permit dashboard can be used without signing in and without paying. Paid checkout is paused in that mode. The public pages stay public either way.

What the site is not

CalgaryPermit is not the City of Calgary, not affiliated with it, and not able to accept a permit application. Nothing here is a code interpretation or a promise that a project may proceed. The original dataset is Building Permits on the City of Calgary Open Data Portal. If the City's row and a sentence on this site disagree, the City's row is the source and the sentence should be fixed.

Advertising on the site is Google AdSense. The privacy policy says so, including the cookies AdSense may set. Editorial pages are not written to fit an ad. They are written from the dataset's fields.
